Free Virtual Lunch Lecture: Howard Kennedy School

In honor of Black History Month, join DCHS Collections Assistant Elise O’Neil for a free virtual Lunch Lecture about the history of Howard Kennedy Elementary School.

A historically African American school, Kennedy has been through many significant iterations since its founding as the Omaha View School in 1886. Elise became interested in this history while working at the school from 2016 to 2018. This led her to create an online archive with over 450 primary source photographs and documents relating to the school for her capstone project while pursuing an MA at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Drawing from this resource, the talk will include a retrospective on successful school programs, a discussion about integration in OPS, and nods to notable alums such Charles Washington, Gale Sayers, and Elizabeth Davis Pittman.

Time: Friday, February 25 at 12:00 PM

RSVP by February 24th by calling (402) 455-9990 Ext 102.
